Curiosities of the cucumber that perhaps you did not know
- It is one of the most harvested and consumed vegetables worldwide, it belongs to the cucurbitaceae family and is a cousin of melon, watermelon and pumpkins.
- It is a summer vegetable, although today it can be bought throughout the year thanks to greenhouse crops, which have proliferated in an extraordinary way.
- Cucumber is a food with low caloric intake and few carbohydrates; it also provides fibers, vitamins A, B, C and E, potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.
- It is consumed mainly in salads, any that does not occur, cut into thin slices and raw, in cold creams or in sauces, becoming a very refreshing food in the summer season.
- In 2017, more than 956 thousand tons were produced and of the 29 producing entities, Sinaloa is the undisputed leader with a contribution of 32.3 percent of the total harvested.
